flaless Design Goal Number 1

Simplify.

As our technology increases in capacity and function while simultaneously decreases in size and cost, there is a natural tendency to spread the increasing complexity of the internal design of a given device* far beyond itself. This tendency must be resisted for a device to survive and stand out amongst the vast ocean of competing devices.

The most successful and revolutionary of these devices spread themselves naturally through the culture via their near effortless usage, no matter how complex it's own ever expanding function(s).

*in this context you may consider the word "device" synonymous with "application", although that application is running on some device isn't it?

The Power of Description

No problem can be solved until accurately defined.
Many times what appeared to be "the problem" is actually just a symptom.
Patching the symptom does not usually solve "the problem".

Once you have analyzed the "symptoms" and clearly described the problem or problems:

Solve the problem(s), Now and Forever:

Attack each problem singularly as if the rest of the system does not exist.
Solve that problem completely and efficiently, and the over all system is better off.

Create tools that solve the individual problems, integrate into system as necessary.
